DAY 2 - Morning and afternoon jeep safaris in Ranthambore National Park

This morning, an early start affords us a better chance of spotting the majestic Bengal Tiger as they are more active in the cool climes of the morning, before the heat of the day forces them to take shelter. Ranthambore National Park comprises of rivers, lakes and forests that nestle among a surrounding girdle of steep cliffs and rocky outcrops. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in the 1950's, although it was still used as a hunting reserve until the early 1970's. In 1974 it became part of the Project Tiger, a large conservation project across the whole of India and since then the tiger population in the park has been on the rise. We hope to see tigers roaming among the woodlands and cooling off in the lakes and we may even be lucky enough to see them on the hunt.

Aside from tiger, the park is also home to sloth bear, langur, striped hyena, marsh crocodile, python and Ganga soft-shelled turtle. The park is a haven for birdlife, and sightings of species such as crested hawk eagle, crested serpent eagle, jacana, parakeet and white-breasted kingfisher are common-place

After our morning safari, we will return to our hotel and spend a few hours relaxing before our afternoon safari, which will offer us further opportunities for sighting wildlife. Each of the wildlife drives will last three hours and will be in a shared jeep which seats up to six people, including an expert naturalist , increasing our chances of sighting wildlife.
