Itinerary:

Day 1: Anchorage. Arrival Upon arrival in Anchorage transfer at your own cost to your chosen hotel, the rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy the sights. With almost 300,000 people calling it home, Anchorage is the largest city and cosmopolitan centre of Alaska. While not the capital of the state, it is the self-proclaimed gateway to Alaska for many visitors. Built originally as a railway depot, the city grew with the development of the farming collective in the Mat-Su valley and the building of Air Force bases. With the discovery of oil, the city became the commercial and financial centre of the state. Situated on the Pacific Ocean on Cook Inlet and moderated by the ocean, the city does not often get the extreme weather that much of Alaska is renowned for. A vibrant and unique city on the edge of the Alaskan wilderness - parks, trails, and moose all make for a unique setting, and there are plenty of opportunities for exploring if you choose. The quaint log cabin visitor centre is a good place to start.

Overnight at: The Lakefront Anchorage - Deluxe Room

Day 2: Anchorage >Girdwood (62 km). This morning travel along the Seward Highway towards scenic Turnagain Arm. Turnagain Arm is a body of water featuring the world's second highest tides at over 30 feet. Keep an eye out for Beluga whales chasing salmon in the bay or Dall sheep along the highway. Continue onto the Alyeska Highway a short distance to the town of Girdwood and the Alyeska Resort. At the Alyeska Resort, take the Aerial Tram (included) to the peak for a view of seven glaciers and Turnagain Arm. This resort has activities available for all, from the Roundhouse Museum at the peak to mountain biking and hiking in the summer.

Day 3: Girdwood > Seward (144 km). Depart today from Alyeska Resort. En-route to Seward, stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Centre, a sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska's wildlife. The Center maintains over 200 acres of spacious habitats for animals to feel at home and display their natural "wild" behavior. Continuing towards Seward you will begin to climb into the mountains and alpine that lies at the centre of the Peninsula. A picturesque community nestled between the Kenai Mountains and Resurrection Bay; Seward attracts many visitors during the summer months and is the gateway to majestic Kenai Fjords National Park. Denali climbers; the community of 857 residents is located at the confluence of the Talkeetna and Susitna Rivers. A turn-of-the-20th-century gold-mining centre, the town has retained much of its early Alaskan flavour. Log cabins, a roadhouse and clapboard storefronts line the dirt streets, colourful locals and bush pilots stroll the wooden sidewalks, while Mount Denali looms overhead. Main Street, the only paved road in town, begins with a "Welcome to Beautiful Downtown Talkeetna" sign at the town park and ends at the banks of the Susitna River, a nice place to view the big mountain when it's out.

The folklore, artifacts and a panoramic view of Denali in the Alaska Range combine to make this an unforgettable and unique Alaskan river adventure.
